Dr. Dirk Ruwaard is the first head of department after the merger of the departments Health Organization, Policy and Economics and Health Care and Nursing Science. Ruwaard is head of the new department from 3 January 2011. The name of the new department after the merger will be announced later on.

   
He has been working for several years in the field of public health, in research as well as policy. In his last position as director of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport he was able to bridge the gaps between policy, research and practice.
