Mr. G.B.M.Leers,
Mayor of the City of Maastricht Mr. Leers was born in Kerkrade, the Netherlands on the 12th of July, 1951 and is married to Genoveef Poelmans. The couple has 3 daughters. He completed his education at the University of Nijmegen in 1976 and has been Mayor of the City of Maastricht since the 1st of February, 2002. In addition to holding the post of regional manager of the South Limburg Regional Police Force and chairing South Limburg’s Fire Brigade/GHOR Emergency Medical Services Executive and General Management Board he is also a member, chairperson, board member or representative of a number of organizations with activities ranging from national, regional and cross-border consultation, municipal government-business contact, international cooperation and consumer interest to advisory groups, a foundation and an enterprise guarantee fund. He also holds a variety of honorary chairperson and honorary presidential posts with social and cultural organizations in Maastricht with amongst others, the Maastricht Orange Committee and the “Mastreechter Staar” Royal Choral Society. He is also patron to Maastricht’s municipal carnival association. |
