Mr. Romualdas Kalonaitis,
Ambassador at Large, Vilnius, Lithuania.
Born November 24, 1941 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
After graduating the gymnasium in Kaunas in 1959, Mr. Kalinaitis studied
in Kaunas Institute of Technology (Polytechnical institute)
1959-1965 obtaining a diploma in Economy and Engineering.
From 1965 to 1967 he was head of the Labour and Wages department,
at t he fuel injector production factory in Vilnius, Lithuania. From
1967-1972 he was deputy head of unit, chief economist, in charge of
Labour market coordination and management for the Labour Committee
in Vilnius, Lithuania. From 1972-1973 chief economist, he became head
of unit for the State planning Committee in Vilnius, Lithuania.
From 1973-1989 Editor, Deputy Editor-in-chief, of the science and
technology academic journal "Mokslas ir technika", Vilnius.
From 1989-1992 he was the Director and Editor-in-chief, of a publishing
company.
In September 1992, he obtained the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary.
From 1992-1997 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Sweden, and from 1997-2001 he was Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the European Communities.
Since 2001, Mr. Kalonaitis is Ambassador at Large, adviser on COREPER
to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuania.
He published seven books and more than 200 articles in periodicals.
He speaks Lithuanian, English, Polish, French, Swedish, and Russian.
